SparkNano will be at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) for the Workshop Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) for next-generation batteries.
NXTGEN Hightech, BatteryNL and High Tech NL are organizing this workshop with a focus on ALD technology for interface engineering in Li-ion batteries. Auke Kronemeijer (TNO Holst Centre), Mariadriana Creatore (TU/e), and Milou Arts (High Tech NL) will welcome participants in the morning. In the afternoon, Adriana Creatore (TU/e) and SparkNano’s CTO, Dr. Paul Poodt (also assistant professor at TU/e), will introduce the group discussions.
The Netherlands has a strong presence of manufacturers specializing in gas-phase deposition technologies for thin-film battery components. Together, we will explore opportunities and strategies for validating high-throughput ALD and integrating it into Dutch pilot lines.
Event details

Date: 1 September 2025
Time: 09:30 – 17:00 CET (group discussions start at 13:30 CET)
Location: TU/e Eindhoven, the Netherlands
Workshop topics
- Targets and KPIs: Discuss the added costs of an ALD process in future battery manufacturing versus the added value for performance.
- Technological and supply chain maturity: Strengthen links between partners and identify collaborations for scaling.
- Scalability and cost-related issues: Address challenges in high-throughput (spatial) ALD applications. Define the “wins” and build a business case on a battery/plant level rather than just comparing anode costs.
- Strategic opportunities: Identify strategic opportunities for (spatial) ALD in battery manufacturing.
This Workshop Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) for next-generation batteries is by invitation only via Emanuela Zanetti.
